H1N1 Influenza Update

2010

Flu season is underway!  Now is the time for all children, teens, young adults, and adults to be vaccinated against H1N1.  Here are the facts:

·        H1N1 flu continues to spread throughout Wisconsin.

·        Children, teens and young adults are the most likely to get sick with this new virus. They also have a greater risk of serious illness from H1N1.

·        H1N1 flu is new, but flu vaccine is not. H1N1 vaccine is made and tested the same way as seasonal flu vaccine. Flu vaccine has an excellent safety record.

·        Even if people think they already had the flu, the CDC is advising vaccination.  It does no harm and does offer protection in case the illness was not H1N1 flu.

·        Vaccination is quick, easy and free of charge at public health clinics!

·        Children less than 10 years of age will require a second dose 28 days after the first.

o       All persons ages 6 months and older are now being vaccinated against H1N1.
